Vertical Turbines

Like Earth-Tech Energy System's popular horizontal turbine, our vertical turbine system features magnetic levitation power generation.

Magnetic levitation is an extremely efficient system for wind energy. Here's how it works: the vertically oriented blades of the wind turbine are suspended in the air above the base of the machine, replacing the need for ball bearings. The turbine uses "full-permanent" magnets, not electromagnets - therefore, it does not require electricty to run. The full-permanent magnet system employs neodymium ("rare earth") magnets and there is no energy loss through friction. This also helps reduce maintenance costs and increases the lifespan of the generator.

Maglev wind turbines have several advantages over conventional wind turbines. For instance, they're able to use winds with starting speeds as low as 2 miles per hour. Also, they could operate in winds exceeding 60 mph. Best of all, this 3-phase generator produces THREE TIMES more power than conventional wind turbines, horizontal OR vertical, and out performs their rated output!

Our Maglev VAWT turbines not only use the state of the art Maglev technology but we have also incorporated a revolutionary patented blade design that reduces wind resistance and increases efficiency. Most VAWT blades are designed with a main wing, a front aero guide and an aileron on both sides. In the past, the left and right aileron were integrated along with the front aero guide into a fixed unit. This created some problems since fixing the left and right ailerons increased the blade diameter which in turn increased the wind resistance and impacted the functionality of the VAWT.

Our new patented blade design has eliminated the fixed wing in favor of a viable rotating wing. This new technology allows the wing to "hook" the wind, then release it again when the appropriate resistance is obtained. When the front part of the aero guide is against the wind, the left and right aileron will close against the main wing and the wind resistance is reduced. But when the front part of the aero guide is away from the wind, the left and right ailerons will open away from the main wing and pick up the driving force from the other side of the wind. So this new design now allows the turbine to take full advantage of the wind force without resistance or drag. This also allows our turbine to be more effective at lower wind speeds.
